The UL and FCC certified GSTS1000 fixture is designed to last and work safely in any indoor grow environment. The entire fixture is rated IP65 for water and dust resistance.
Since the liquid cooled loop provides sufficient cooling for the LEDs, the fixture can operate at extreme temperatures without reducing the light’s lifespan or encountering light degradation of the diodes over time. Our lights can be mounted in any position (vertical or horizontal) without decreasing the fixtures lighting or cooling efficiency)
The fixture is also built with a thermal protective feature which will cut power to the light within the system if a critical temperature is reached.
Our lights have past all of the required test required by the DLC – design light consortium https://www.designlights.org/. DLC is an independent testing lab for light fixtures. The DLC has certified that the efficiency claims of the GS Thermals fixtures have been tested and verified.
What are the GSTS vs. Traditional LED performance benefits?
A GSTS system will lower your energy consumption while increasing your plant production and profits.Unlike traditional grow systems, our patent protected (US9857068) liquid-cooled LED light fixture is remotely controlled and documents its spectral intensity, ensuring your plants get the light they need when they need it.
GSTS patent pending dehumidification unit delivers only the energy elements needed for plant growth. You pay for nothing but plant optimized energy usage.
GSTS designed this energy saving technology through an in-depth study of the light and temperatures necessary to grow agricultural produce.
What are the potential labor savings?
Our automated facility control system reduces the likelihood of human error in the grow environment cutting labor costs and automating many system functions.
What is “shadowless” technology ?
GSTS adopted shadowless technology from the surgical light market, recognizing this same technology would have huge benefits to a growing plant.
This allows maximum light penetration at all levels and angles in your space, not just at the top of the canopy. GSTS lights utilize four independent light bars strategically spaced in each, individual fixture. The photons our lights emit are refracted off one another, creating a shadowless delivery that penetrates deep into the plants canopy allowing them to have a more robust yield and a shorter grow cycle.
Because of the shadowless tech combined with the uniformity of the PAR spread, we are able to achieve the highest quality lighting system on the market.
How/why do liquid cooled LEDs generate energy savings over HID or air-cooled LEDs?
Liquid Cooled LEDs are much more efficient than other lighting technologies. For example, high intensity discharge (HID) lighting, such as high pressure sodium (HPS) fixtures, are only about 27% efficient (27% of total energy goes to light and 73% become heat). In comparison, light emitting diode (LED) technology is about 45% efficient which is almost double what a traditional HPS achieves.
In addition, light spectrum output from the LED can be selective and optimized for the photosynthesis process compared to HPS which provides a fixed spectrum based on the filament materials used. LED light output is also directional and can be optimized to cover a particular area maximizing the light effectiveness. HID lamps output light in all directions, which requires about half of the light output to bounce off a reflector to change its direction. Even the best reflectors result in lost light causing additional reduction of efficiency, which increases as the reflectors age and become dirty or corroded. An average an LED grow light is about twice efficient as an HPS light.
Since the LED technology is 45% efficient, that means 55% of the total energy still becomes waste heat in the light making process. Unlike other air-cooled LEDs which reject waste heat into the grow environment, GSTS Liquid Cooled LEDs remove almost all waste heat through a circulating liquid loop. The waste heat from the light can then be reclaimed for other uses.
GSTS spectral output is designed to the McCree Action Spectrum, which is a measure of the usable light spectrum by plants developed in the 1970s by K.J. McCree. The McCree action spectrum provides a basis for the definition of Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), and is shown below with action spectrums for several different types of plant photoreceptors as a white line, overlaid on the spectral output of a GSTS light. Note, that GSTS LED light spectral intensity can be tuned for any particular plant’s genetic stages of plant grow, by independently adjusting the output of each color LED on the fixture.
How do liquid cooled LEDs interact with the HVAC systems and environmental requirements of grow spaces?
The waste heat from the GSTS LED grow light is removed by the liquid cooling system from the grow environment. This results in much less cooling load than other systems. This wasted heat can also be repurposed for heating hot water or directed back to the GSTS dehumidification system for the reheat process. Note: the liquid cooled LED does not rely on the surrounding environment for cooling like all other air-cooled LEDs. This feature has great advantages for multilevel and tight space grow environments where heating and cooling is a challenge.
GSTS lights include a high level of spectra control.
How much of a learning curve is associated with using your systems, and do you have any testimonials who can attest to yield improvements using your equipment?
Not much of a learning curve at all. By having spectral intensity control, customers can always start with whatever they like best and adjust from there. Some of our most recent feedback has been that the grower was excited that they can record light “recipes”, or the spectrum used for each stage of the grow cycle, for future use and reference with grow cycle results. This also allows the customer to record and develop their “recipes” for specific strains of plants. With their new spectrum control, the customers’ ability to adjust the spectrum to the plants needs has benefits on many fronts, including THC production and increased yield.

Are there designs or HVAC systems that do not work well with liquid cooled LEDs?
Refer to answers in question 3. The GSTS liquid-cooled LED works best with GSTS engineering design/systems and products; however, it also works well with other systems and reveal significant benefits and reduction in energy consumption.
With pumps and liquid tubing there is some additional infrastructure and/or maintenance that is required. Do you provide support services, or training of any kind?
It is very little additional infrastructure and maintenance. The liquid flows in a closed loop fashion and requires little to no maintenance. The piping system is made from off-the-shelf PEX tubing, which is similar to a radiant floor heating system. Yes, installation support is always available. The system does not require any specific tradesmen, in fact, an end user with basic handyman skills could install the system.
What are the interactive impacts of liquid cooled LEDs on system design and cost?
The fixtures are more expensive and require additional systems to support them (pumping and heat rejection equipment), do liquid cooled LEDs offset or reduce the sizing of other components of HVAC systems?
Users will immediately see the benefit. Since the liquid cooled LEDs significantly reduce the cooling load from the grow environment, they produce significant savings in HVAC equipment and electrical infrastructure. The operating cost is also significantly reduced due to the smaller size of the HVAC equipment and energy efficient liquid-cooled LED.
Do you have references that can attest to the growing effectiveness of your lights? What kind of feedback do you get on your products?
Yes, we have seen feedback in terms of both the HVAC savings and the lighting technology such as: “Wow I turned off my AC. This has never happened. Ever!” and “Hey, I actually saw an increase in yield in a shorter grow period from recent experiences with HPS”
Do you warranty your lights?
Yes, we have a standard 3-year warranty and an option for an extended, 5-year warranty.
Can I ask who manufacturers your LEDs?
We have US based assembling and overseas manufacturing from several suppliers.
Can you tell us a little bit about the engineering services you provide and what set’s GS Thermal Solutions apart from their competitors?
Our background is design and implementation of energy efficient systems, especially in the areas of lighting and cooling technology. Since indoor grow systems depend heavily on these two technologies, that gives us an advantage over competitors. We can offer a complete turnkey indoor grow solution with the most energy-efficient equipment and engineering design. Having the most energy-efficient products, knowledge in lighting, cooling/dehumidification, and experience in growing processes gives GS Thermal Solutions an advantage over competitors.
What are your thoughts on the future of the cannabis market?
I think it is in the early stage of what is to come. As more people enter the market, the price will continue to fall. We have already experienced this in places like Colorado and Washington. The key to surviving long-term in this market is minimizing the production cost. Having an energy efficient system and reducing manual labor is going to be the key. As larger companies enter this industry, they will have energy efficiency standards and operations already implemented into their designs.
Will LED’s ever be the standard for grow lighting like they are for space lighting, and if so, how long until we get to that point do you think?
We have been seeing a change over the last 6 months with significantly higher adoption from growers when compared to the past few years. People are realizing the science and benefits of the LED technology. With the LED continually improving and reducing in cost, we think it will not be more than two years before LEDs become the standard for grow lights. However, not all the LEDs are created equal, what will set one LED grow light apart from the other is still a question, and GSTS research and development team will continue working to provide the solutions for this market.
